More than the destination: How to choose your travel companion.

Last week, I had the crazy beautiful blessing of meeting one of my dearest friends over tea (if you spend much time with me, you know that this is quite literally one of my favorite things in the entire world to do -- there is life to be found over a cup of steaming love). It had been a few months since we last carved out the time for some soul connection, and we were catching up, chatting business and friendship, relationships and exciting new adventures.

Over the course of the conversation, we landed on the (much beloved) topic of the wandering life. I spoke about my deepest cravings for time unplugged, surrounded by sea and sky and trees, strengthened by fresh air and simplicity. She spoke of her wandering spirit, of soulful integration and exploration.

The journey feeds us.

But, more than our destination, mode of transportation or overnight accommodations, the experience is defined by our companions.  Whether it's our travel buddy, business partner, dearest friend, romantic partner or even the fullest version of ourselves, the people that we invite on the journey make the trip.

What you will be in five years depends on two things: the people you meet and the books that you read.
— Twyla Tharp

The people that you invite into your life, the people that you keep in your life, and the people that you invest in (I'm including you in this category)... well, they'll define who you are, what you value and who you become. Research supports this (it's not just me!). Happy people surround themselves with happy people. Successful people make it a point to mastermind and brainstorm with other successful people. Healthy people get their wellness on with other healthy people.

The flip-side is true, as well. So, choose your travel companions wisely.

I am changed by the people on my team -- they are the best of the best. Over the years, I have chosen to relinquish painful, negative relationships (the kind that drag you farther away from your most amazing, gloriously authentic self), choosing to forgive and move forward. In turn, I have chosen to engage, invest and invite some ridiculously kick-ass, creative, compassionate and intentional individuals into my life. And it has made all the difference. The journey will never be the same.

More that just sweater weather and cozy cuddles (both of which are on my list of must-have favorites), the beginning of Autumn marks a season of transition and new adventures. It's time to invest in yourself, your dreams and your life. After all, you only get one.

So, who do you want to be? What do you want to feel and experience? Who makes you feel that way? (... And who doesn't?)

Do you want to feel strong? Invite people who make you feel stronger, more capable, more energized into your life.

Looking to make a change on the health front? Who is on your team? Grab your most motivating girlfriends, your favorite health coach or your neighborhood group fitness class and get on the health train together.

Want to feel confident or divinely feminine, spiritually centered or crazy in love with your body? Craving some business clarity or entrepreneurial inspiration? Who do you need to invite into your life? What relationships need to take a back-seat for your desires to take off? Beyond that, where do you need to invite your fullest self to show up in all it's crazy incredible glory to get you there?
