connect with me over @katekmccarthy

It's hard to believe that it's already the end of January, friends!⠀
⠀
I've been preparing for this day - the day that I delete the Instagram app from my phone (temporarily!) and head off on my social media + podcasting sabbatical for 28 solid days - for what feels like months (it just feels that way, it's only been weeks at this point).⠀
⠀
But, before I go, I wanted to let you know that, while I'll be away from the 'gram, I'm not REALLY going anywhere. After all, I'll still be working with my 1:1 clients (and taking on new clients!), sending my bi-weekly(ish) emails, and thinking of you all.⠀
⠀
If you're wondering how to connect while I'm away (I'll be back on March 1st!), here are a few powerful next steps:⠀
⠀
⇢ ONE. For a burst of real-time support, schedule your Next Right Step Session (now Pay-What-You're-Able!). Click the link in my bio to learn more and snag yours!⠀
⠀
⇢ TWO. Download the free guide! My most popular free workbook, UNEDITED, is back and revamped for 2019. Hit the #linkinbio to download your copy.⠀
⠀
⇢ THREE. Catch up on the podcast. Haven't had a chance to catch up on your favorites? Find "A Braver Brand" on your favorite podcasting app and catch up before next episodes are released in March!⠀
⠀
⇢ FOUR. This is my favorite... just reach out. Head to my bio to reach out via email or venture over to katekmccarthy.com to see what's cooking at headquarters. I'm just on the other side, friend.⠀
⠀
BRB, I love you!⠀
⠀
A WEDNESDAY LOVE LETTER⠀
⠀
To put yourself out there, to create -- whether it's a business, a product, a service, or a connection -- is to be vulnerable. To risk rejection or criticism. It's a feeling of fear and trepidation and emotional nakedness.⠀
⠀
But if I've learned anything about anything it's this: you'll be ok.⠀
⠀
Even if your bravery is met with skepticism. Even if your moment of courage looks a hell of a lot like lying prostrate on the ground. Even if you lose the job, or quit the job, or never even get the job. Even if that blog post leads to a slough of emails in your inbox telling you all the reasons why you're wrong.⠀
⠀
You will be ok. And, more importantly, you will be doing the work that matters, the work that brings light and life and change, the work that looks like you and feels like love.⠀
⠀
And that, dear friend, is worth it every time.⠀
⠀
P.S. I love you. Cheering you on always.⠀
⠀
xx⠀

The pause.⠀
⠀
Taking a step back, letting the noise fall away, putting aside the productivity and to-do list for that exhale.⠀
⠀
I’ll be honest... It can be terrifying.⠀
⠀
Last week, I decided to look back and do some calculations. In just the past two years alone, I’ve posted 522 Instagram posts, written and sent 168 emails to my lists, and published 59 podcast episodes. I’ve launched multiple courses, led a retreat, opened up Facebook groups, and had the honor of working 1:1 with some of the most phenomenal humans I could ever imagine.⠀
⠀
Productivity? I’m on it.⠀
⠀
The pause? … Oof.⠀
⠀
This past December, I started to hear the whispers of my intuition telling me that it was time to pause, to take the month of February away from social media.⠀
⠀
I ignored it at first. After all, it felt wildly audacious and more than a little bananas. After so many years of consistency, the thought of taking a step away - and for a month at that! - felt, well, impossible.⠀
⠀
The good news? That still, small voice within, the whisper of my intuition, didn’t stay still or small for long. It got louder, more insistent, reminding me of my power and courage and joy-filled, rebellious callings.⠀
⠀
And finally, I listened.⠀
⠀
So… this February, I’m taking a month-long sabbatical from the external pieces of my business - meaning, my social media and the podcast.⠀
⠀
I’ll still be supporting my 1:1 clients (and still taking on new clients!), along with being in my private communities, but I’m pulling back on my external presence all to get still, quiet, and prepared for what comes next.⠀
⠀
And y’all, there are some world-shaking, heart-swelling things in the works for this year. All of which require the pause.⠀
⠀
Am I scared? Hell yes.⠀
⠀
Do I worry about the algorithm? Wish I could say I don’t, but…⠀
⠀
Do I know what’s going to emerge in the space where Instagram and Facebook and podcasting live? I have absolutely no idea. But I could not be more excited to find out.⠀
⠀
P.S. Got questions about my social media/podcasting sabbatical? DM me or head to my stories where I'll be talking about it more!
Once upon a time, I listened to a podcast with @elizabeth_gilbert_writer. She quoted John Steinbeck, who once wrote: "And now that you don't have to be perfect, you can be good."⠀
⠀
Liz continued on, speaking to her own evolution, her own journey into liberation...⠀
⠀
"And now that you don't have to be good, you can be free."⠀
⠀
Yes. This. ✨
⠀
As a recovering perfectionist, a life-long "good girl," and a woman who once lived life obligated to everyone else but me, it was as if a piece of me was finally released.⠀
⠀
For many of us, our ideas of who we "should be" create a boundary around who we could be, if we only gave ourselves the permission to be wholly, incredibly, and vulnerably authentic.⠀
⠀
Within this boundary, we temper our emotions, we limit our dreams. We leave words unspoken, needs unexpressed. We buy into the box we've created for our businesses, we slog through obligations, and we say no to scary, new desires, never allowing ourselves the freedom of exploring what it might look like if it were... different.⠀
⠀
So, what if it were different, friend?⠀
⠀
What if, now that you no longer have to be good... you can be free?⠀
⠀
What’s one thing - in life or business - that you would release or radically alter, that you’d raise your voice around or take on as a new challenge?⠀
Who’s with me? 🙋🏻‍♀️⠀

THAT FACE.⠀
⠀
Every weekday morning, in the last 10-15 minutes before he leaves for work, @misterpjm and I meet in the living room to meditate together.⠀
⠀
He'll find his place on the wooden chair by the bookcase, and I'll cozy into the big reading chair in the corner. And together, we'll turn on the headspace app and tune into our breath.⠀
⠀
Lately, at some point in the guided meditation, this little nugget wanders out of our bedroom to join us. She whines a little at the edge of my chair, urging me to scoot over. When I do, she hops right up and snuggles in. I move my hand from my lap to her little head and she nuzzles into it.⠀
⠀
I'm aware that if I were doing meditation "right," I'd probably stay focused on my breath. But sometimes, my morning mindfulness looks like being entirely present to this little furry nugget who, more than anything in the world, just wants to snuggle with me in my big, comfy chair.⠀
⠀
And I mean, look at that face. Who could say no?⠀
⠀
Mondays around here are all about claiming and naming our JOY (and moments like these are certainly some of mine!).⠀
⠀
Won't you join me? Declare your joys in the comments below! 👇🏼
