In case you were wondering, yes, that's me. I rock the moon-boots, tree-skirt, and fabulous early-90's winter coat (yep, I used to wear the tree skirt as an actual skirt -- I did some mean twirling back in the day, babes). Some of the many things that made my memories of Christmas as a child so completely ridiculous and wonderful.
As we speak, I'm prepping gifts, treats and my comfiest Christmas PJs for a few days of family, R&R and only the finest of holiday tunes.
But presents aren't the only thing that I'm wrapping up.
Just a few days ago, we celebrated the long-awaited winter solstice. Marking the official beginning of winter and the shortest day of the year, it's our darkest day - the point at which we can celebrate the return of lighter and longer days and the infinite potential that they hold. For me, this time of year is a season of reflection and intention, holding the space between the past and the future, simultaneously attuning to the past and turning toward the future.
In order to know where we're going, we have to know where we've been. For me, 2014 has been a turning point. While each year provides learning and growth and joy, this year has been particularly transformative. It most certainly has not been perfect -- I've witnessed negative patterns show up time and again, relaunching fears and insecurities and the work that is self-love. But, man oh man, it's been so, so good.
Over the past few weeks, in the midst of holiday craziness, to-do lists and the typical hustle and bustle, I've taken some time to reorient to self. Grabbing my favorite spiral notebook, I spent time alone to create a list (by no means exhaustive) of what I've accomplished over the past year. It may seem odd, perhaps seems a little boastful, but I have a habit of forgetting just how much learning, growth and creativity can be packed into 365 days, and refocusing on the moments of growth and accomplishment reminds me of focus and direction and just how crazy eff-ing amazing this life is, everyday.
Here are some of the highlights:
I've shifted gears, directions, and roles, each one teaching me a little bit more about myself. I launched Wellness by Kate in Seattle, created four programs, decided to launch three, lovingly ended two. I worked with dozens of clients, broke up with one. I moved 1,300 miles, built a new "home," got engaged to the most amazing man. I started the year coaching one-on-one, I'm ending the year crafting the most amazing workshop. I destroyed, rebuilt, created.
So, so good.
I'm all about tooting your own horn. Especially to yourself. Cause, baby, you're phenomenal.
It's your turn.
What have you accomplished this year? Where have you grown? What have you learned? What amazing things have you experienced? Write them down, shout them out, share them here. Having a hard time excavating the awesome? Grab a friend, a loved one, some outside perspective -- hashing out these questions with a trusted friend can help illuminate your irresistibility.
I wanna know. What greatness have you given the world this year?!
