recipe rescue: appetizer edition

I have a confession to make: I love appys. Dips, cheeses, bruschettas, you name it, I've indulged. And, that's ok. The problem? I also have a little problem with that whole willpower thing. I have an urge in me that says... Must. Finish. Entire. Plate. That's, well... not ok.

So, instead of running from the deliciousness, I've combined my helpful holiday tips with healthy alternatives and I'm sharing them all with you this month.

Picking and choosing smart appetizers for your holiday meals can set you up for success.

Here are some delicious appetizer options to bring to your next holiday gathering:

Easy Flaked Almond “Tuna” Salad: My fiance and I make this regularly for a quick salad topper or easy dinner option, but blend it a little more and it makes a delicious dip!  Cut up some fresh veggies for easy dipping. (Courtesy of Oh She Glows)

Orange-Spiced Pumpkin Hummus: Celebrate with seasonal flavors and treat your family and friends to an antioxidant-packed appetizer! (Courtesy of Healthy. Happy. Life.)

Spicy Almonds: Curb your hunger with a handful of these protein-packed almonds. (Courtesy of Mom, What’s for Dinner?)

Raw Vegan “Goat” Cheese Dip: Pair your favorite whole grain or gluten-free crackers with this flavor (and nutrient) filled dip! (Courtesy of Fork and Beans)

“The Best Hummus You’ll Ever Have”: Perfect for veggie dippables, A Cup of Jo enlightens us in making the “best” hummus we’ll ever have.

Looking for something a little less labor intensive? You can never go wrong with vegetable crudites!  Grab some of your favorite store-made hummus, sprinkle it with some yummy paprika, and dip away!  Looking for something for munching?  Pick up a bag of your favorite organic nut varieties and pretty them up in a favorite snacking platter.

One way to ensure healthy choices at your holiday get-together?  Rather than grabbing that box of conventionally-manufactured crackers, choose fruits or veggies — fill up on jicama, broccoli, cauliflower, apples, carrots and more!
